Resources and information for students during the COVID-19 pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic impacts so many areas of our lives, from how we learn to our health and well-being, from our economic security to how we plan for the future. Clackamas Community College recognizes the extraordinary challenges facing students pursuing education during a global pandemic.
Resources are available. This page will be updated with resources and information for students to support you to achieve your goals.
We are here for you. Student support services are available remotely (by phone or online), including advising, counseling and tutoring.
Classes and student services
Almost all of our classes are online because of COVID-19. But we have three different ways of doing online classes so here’s a little bit of help when you are reading your schedule:
Online classes do not have specific days or times for participation but some instructors may schedule optional virtual meetings and office hours. These classes have been intentionally developed to meet online course design standards.
Remote classes are held online at specific days and times and require students to use online tools (Zoom for example) in order to participate. Check the class schedule for the specific meeting days and times. Remote classes were intended to meet in-person, but have been moved to an internet delivery mode due to campus closures related to inclement weather or a local/global health emergency.
Hybrid classes are completed both in-person and online. For example, students might attend a weekly lecture on-campus, and then take part in a class discussion online. The amount of time spent on-campus varies between courses. Check the class schedule for specific meeting days and times, as well as campus location information.
In-person classes take place at specific meeting days, times and locations. Class materials might be delivered online, but all instruction takes place in-person. Check the class schedule for specific meeting days and times, as well as campus location information.
Need computer or technology access?
Associated Student Government (ASG) has a limited number of Chromebooks for students to check out at no cost for currently registered students. If you are interested in checking out a Chromebook, please complete this form. Students who already have a Chromebook must also complete this application and be registered for courses winter term.
Students who need to pick up a Chromebook can sign up for a pick-up slot the week of Dec. 7, or pick up their Chromebook during the first two weeks of winter term, starting Jan. 4. The ASG office will not be open over winter break.
Students who need to make returns will do so Dec. 7-11, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at the ASG temporary office in Roger Rook Hall. All transactions are conducted outside and students are sent a link to sign up for a 10-minute time slot to place extra emphasis on physical distancing.
For students who need a laptop instead of a Chromebook, instructions are on the Chromebook application, and those who have already checked one out have been e-mailed about renewal.

Use financial aid
Students receiving federal financial aid can use their refund (after tuition and fees are paid) to purchase a laptop.
Need access to Wi-Fi?
Our buildings may be closed, but Clackamas Community College has Wi-Fi access in some of our parking lots. Students are welcome to come to campus and use our Wi-Fi while practicing safe social distancing practices.
Students who do not have internet access can also explore various temporary solutions.
Some companies may be offering temporary aid for those affected by the coronavirus. CCC cannot recommend any specific service but as of March 17, the following programs are offering free/low-cost internet access:
- everyoneon.org Site has an easy-to-search tool that connects folks with local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who offer low-cost internet service programs. Lots of new entries in this challenging time!
- Comcast's Internet Essentials - Free for 60 days for qualified low-income families. Call 1-855-846-8376 for English or 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish.
- Comcast is offering Xfinity WiFi free for everyone, with hotspots available to all, including non-Xfinity subscribers. To access the service, look for the “xfinitywifi” network name in a list of hotspots. For more information, go to www.xfinity.com/wifi
- Spectrum Broadband - Free for 60 days to households with a K-12 student or college student who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription. Installation fees will be waived for new student households as well. To enroll, call 1-844-488-8395.
New to online learning?
In many ways, learning online is similar to learning in a classroom. Your instructor will provide quality readings, exercises, assignments and quizzes. Clackamas Community College uses Moodle for its online course delivery. When you sign up for a class, you will get a self-guided Moodle 101 orientation course to prepare you for online learning and make sure you have the skills you need to succeed.

Need to print a form or homework but don’t have a printer? CCC can help! Students can print documents for free at CCC or at the Oregon City, Milwaukie or West Linn FedEx locations. See below for instructions. If you have questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will respond as soon as possible.
Free printing at CCC:
- Open the Student Printing Request Form.
- To fill out the form and upload your document, you will first need to log in to a Google Account. If you don't already have one, it is free to create a new Google Account.
- Fill out the form, including whether you want to pick up the document from the Oregon City campus or have it mailed to you at the address you provide.
- Attach the document you need printed. Note: You can only submit one file at a time.
- Once your document is printed, you will receive an email saying it is ready to pick up or has been mailed.
Please allow 48 hours for your request to be processed.

The Workforce Department has many resources for students continuing or beginning their educational path. We have various grants that may be able to assist you in paying for your education or providing support services that lead to successfully completing your training in a high-demand industry. Food and job resources
The student food program aims to help supplement food needs and is open to CCC students on a first-request, first-served basis. Contactless food box pick up is available every Wednesday throughout Winter 2021 term. A request must be submitted each week in order to receive groceries from the respective campus. The Workforce Department has many resources for people looking for work who have been affected from a layoff, job loss or starting a job because of COVID-19. We have various grants that may be able to assist you in finding work, upgrading your skills and/or training leading to a job in a high-demand industry. Communications from CCC Leadership
I hope this message finds you safe and well. I know this year has been challenging for most of us, but I want to commend you for making your education a priority and attending Clackamas Community College.
We know the recent wildfires have impacted the college community. Many of you have had to evacuate, were prepared to evacuate, or are caring for and housing others who have evacuated. The poor air quality resulting from the fires is also having a negative impact on the livability of our community.
To allow time for you to recover from the wildfires, Clackamas Community College is canceling the first week of fall term classes. This means that all classes will now begin on Monday, Oct. 5. The term will end at its current date, Dec. 12. If you have a question about how the delay of fall term impacts your class or schedule, please reach out directly to your instructors.
Important dates to know:
- Oct. 5 – First day of classes
- Oct. 11 – Last day to drop a class with a refund
- Oct. 11 – Automatic withdrawal date for students who have not attended class, signed into Moodle, or spoken with their instructors.
- Oct. 12 – Disbursement of financial aid will begin
- Nov. 6 – Last day to drop classes and not receive a grade
- Nov. 6 – Last day to submit petition for graduation
- Dec. 4 – Last day to change grading option
For the last two months, a CCC Return to Campus Work Group has been developing a plan for the college to slowly and safely return to campus when it is safe to do so. As part of this work, we have created a new Return to Campus webpage (www.clackamas.edu/return-to-campus) and a new COVID-19 Student Resources webpage (www.clackamas.edu/student-resources).
On the Return to Campus page you will find information on our current status, safety guidelines and information, and our DRAFT Return to Campus plan. On the Student Resources page there is information on emergency funding, Chromebook checkouts, online learning resources, and other helpful resources.
CCC's Return to Campus plan was developed using guidelines from the Governor's Office, the Oregon Health Authority, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), OSHA, and best practices from other colleges and universities. The plan covers the logistics of how we will re-open the college, including:

- Safety and hygiene
- Personal protective equipment
- Compliance and enforcement
- Health monitoring
- Daily self-health checklist
- Occupancy guidelines
- Safety plan worksheets
CCC has also launched a new app to put COVID-19 news and resources at your fingertips. On the app you can:

Though CCC plans to remain online through fall term, we are working to return some classes to campus that cannot be taught online. We will update our website and continue to communicate with you as we progress toward fall term. The safety of our students, employees, and the community is of the upmost importance to the college. Last week the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) and the Oregon Health Authority released guidelines for resuming in-person higher education activities. As of June 14, Clackamas Community College is allowed in-person instruction if we can meet the minimum COVID-19 public health standards.
Please know that we are not opening all our buildings and resuming all classes in person this summer or even this fall. The college’s Returning to Campus Work Group is working on a plan to safely re-open in stages.

Message to CCC students about the extension of online learning through fall term
This Friday we will start to see some openings across the state amid the coronavirus pandemic. However, we still do not know when Clackamas County will begin to reopen and to what degree. Because of this, we have decided to move fall term online, with some exceptions for particular programs.
As a reminder, the date fall registration opens was moved to June 1 to allow more time for faculty to plan for classes and for us to better define which classes are remote and which ones are online. “Remote” means classes will be taught at a set time and day each week, and “online” means there is no dedicated time and day to meet as a class.
The decision to remain online is not an easy one as we would like to open our doors and see our campuses filled with students, staff, and faculty again. But we want to provide as much certainty as we can to you now, so you can plan for the fall. If businesses start to open up more over the summer and rules for social distancing are loosened, we may be able to offer face-to-face classes. We will be closely monitoring this.
Your safety is of the upmost importance to me. We have a team that is planning how we can safely open the college when the time is right (even if we are not having face-to-face classes) so we can serve students in person.
COVID-19 and related shutdowns are becoming much longer than many of us anticipated and hoped. Many of you are tired. Many of you are frustrated. And, I think all of us would like this to be over. I want to ensure that CCC is here for you. We are dedicated to your education and together, we will get through this.

Message to CCC students about the extension of online learning
I hope you and your families are doing well and staying healthy. Our landscape continues to change regarding the state’s response to COVID-19.
On April 7, Gov. Brown announced we are to teach online through June 13 and limit the number of people on campus through June 13. This means our buildings will remain closed to the public and everyone except critical employees will remain working from home through spring term.
Since Clackamas Community College has already committed to be fully online spring term, there are no changes to your courses this term. However, in light of this news and the likelihood of another extension, we will offer online learning through summer term. This means all courses where possible will be held online this summer.
While this is not the news we were hoping to hear, I know that it is for the good of our community. This is a stressful time for all of us and the uncertainty of when we can resume classes in person may be causing additional anxiety. Please know that our student services are still here for you. Whether you need help with advising, would like to talk with a counselor, or need tutoring assistance, those resources are all available remotely.
I miss seeing you all on campus, and I miss being on our beautiful campuses. Thank you for your continued adaptability and dedication to your education at CCC. Stay strong, stay safe.

Message to students on rescheduled graduation ceremonies
At Clackamas Community College, our commencement ceremonies are joyous events. It is a time we get to celebrate your accomplishments with your friends and families. We get to see the pride in your faces as you cross the stage. We get to see the hugs you share with loved ones after the ceremony. We get to honor the friendships you built with your peers and the mentorships you developed with instructors.
It is with a heavy heart that I write to you today to let you know that both CCC’s 2020 GED/adult high school diploma and our degree and certificate commencement ceremonies scheduled for June 11 and 12 are postponed until a later date.
Given the advice of public health officials, the restrictions put in place by state authorities, and our own sense of obligation to safeguard the health of our community, it is impossible to imagine we could or should hold commencement this spring.
Be assured, however, that once we are on the other side of this difficult and extraordinary time, we will find a way to hold commencement and properly recognize the Class of 2020 with all the pomp and circumstance you deserve. We will be seeking your input on how commencement will be delivered and when.
Though we cannot go forward with our physical gathering in June, I want you all to mark the commencement dates on your calendars (June 11 for GED/adult high school diploma ceremony and June 12 for the degree and certificate ceremony). We will be looking for special ways to celebrate you and the Class of 2020 on those days.
I also want to assure you that, yes, for all eligible graduates, degrees will be conferred! If you are planning on completing your degree/certificate during spring term, please go online and Petition for Graduation by May 17. For those who petition to graduate, you will still receive your diplomas in the mail, and you will still be proud Clackamas Community College graduates.
While we need to delay this year’s celebrations, what does not need to be postponed is our pride in what you have accomplished. And when we do convene to celebrate the Class of 2020, it will come with an added dose of praise and congratulations for the tremendous resiliency our students have shown in the face of great adversity.
Thank you again for the flexibility and resolve that you have demonstrated over the past few weeks as we have adjusted to our new, current realities. I emphasize current, because I know that we – as individuals, as Cougars, as a community – will get through this. And we will have your commencement. Go, Cougars!

Message to CCC students on the extension of online classes
Firstly, I want to commend you for prioritizing your education during this stressful time as we continue to attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19. Secondly, I want to thank you for your flexibility and adaptability as we enter spring term. We have all been asked to change how we interact with each other and how we navigate this world.
With a COVID-19 state mandate to move classes online through April 28, Clackamas Community College students have shown great resiliency. To create some stability for our students, as well as our staff and faculty, during these unprecedented times, we have decided to extend all online courses through the end of spring term.
This means that if you have a class starting online next week, it will remain online through all of spring term. The few health sciences classes that have in-person components will continue to offer those components in-person.

Message to CCC students about spring term fees and deadlines
Clackamas Community College recognizes the many challenges our students are facing because of the impacts of COVID-19. We are working to remove as many of those obstacles as we can for you. The following are some changes to fees and deadlines for the upcoming spring term:
- The college is waiving the $50 late registration.
- The $30 deferred payment fee for students who have balances at the end of the second week will also be waived.
- The deadline to drop and receive a refund has been extended to April 19.
- If you meet the prerequisites and a course is not full, you can register without instructor approval through April 5.
- If you are currently on a wait list or a course is full, you will need instructor permission to register.

Message to CCC students
Yesterday, Gov. Brown released an executive order directly impacting Clackamas Community College, mandating online instruction through April 28 and limiting on-campus operations effective tomorrow, March 21. These orders will have several impacts to students and our day-to-day functions.
What does this mean to your classes spring term?
- All spring term classes are canceled March 30-April 3. All classes will begin April 6.
- Classes currently noted as "online" on your schedule, will remain online for all of spring term.
- Courses that aren't noted as "online" (for example, "hybrid" or "MW or TTH") will start as online and move to hybrid or face-to-face later in the term if it is appropriate to bring students back to campus.
- Classes that cannot be moved online will be canceled by the end of the day Monday, March 23. Visit www.clackamas.edu/courses-registration for a list of canceled courses.
- Programs exempt from the mandate that will still be offered in person are:
- Nursing assistant
- Clinical laboratory assistant
- Medical assistant
- Dental assistant
- Emergency medical technician programs

Clackamas Community College Student Services Available Online
Following recommendations from the Oregon Health Authority, we recognize we need to support you fully and safely while also reducing potential exposure to COVID-19. Effective immediately, CCC will expand student support services via phone and email and begin moving individual advising and admission appointments to phone or video conference options (e.g., Zoom or Skype) wherever possible. Many important student activities, including applying for admission, registering for classes, and paying bills are already available at www.clackamas.edu and through the myClackamas student portal. Staff will assist you with how to access these services online as needed. See the contact list below for how to access each department.
Drop-in services may be limited as we move to serve more students virtually and as we practice social distancing* in all of our service areas. We also ask that students make appointments instead of waiting in lines. You can continue to expect great customer service from all of us at CCC during this time even as we adjust to these new conditions. We appreciate your patience as we work to serve your needs.
What is social distancing?
The Center for Disease Control defines social distancing as avoiding crowds and mass public gatherings, and when possible, maintaining a distance of a minimum of three (3) and a maximum of six (six) feet from others. Social distancing also means staying home when ill, avoiding contact with people who have symptoms of illness, and not shaking hands. Financial Aid & Important Deadlines
As of today, financial aid will disburse spring quarter as planned on March 27. The deadline to drop a course has been extended to April 19, and late registration and late payment fees are under review. The scholarship application deadline has been extended to April 30.

I don't have internet access; what are my options?
As long as Clackamas remains open under modified operations, computer labs are available for students at the Oregon City campus. Students who do not have internet access can explore various temporary solutions. Some companies like Comcast may be offering temporary aid for those affected by the coronavirus but CCC cannot recommend any specific service.
I don't know how to use video conferencing; what are my options?
Clackamas is using Zoom as an online meeting space. Students who would like to use Zoom to manage their business at CCC can request to do so by contacting the CCC student services department at the contact information above. Students can sign up for Zoom for free with tutorials located here.
In an effort to protect the health of our students, those who are ill, have health issues or have other concerns regarding COVID-19, you are encouraged to not come to campus for finals this week. Please communicate with your instructors on how to meet any remaining course requirements. We will work to find ways for you to successfully complete your classes.
Clackamas Community College knows that the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) throughout Oregon is of concern to our students, staff and community. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy educational environment, but recognize the way we provide service needs to shift in response to recommendations from the governor, the Oregon Health Authority, public health officials, the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
This morning, the state of Oregon released updated measures to slow the spread of COVID-19. CCC will follow the state’s recommended measures along with new guidelines from the Higher Education Coordinating Commission. Unless otherwise noted, the following guidelines are in effect immediately and will remain in effect until April 8, but will be evaluated and are subject to change and extension.
- Finals will be held next week as scheduled.
- Classes are canceled the first week of spring term (March 30-April 3).
- Beginning April 6, where possible, classes will be shifted to remote/online learning (e.g., Moodle).
- Where online learning is not feasible (e.g., labs), class sizes will be limited or room sizes expanded to provide social distancing.
- We are urging instructors to be flexible in attendance policies and to consider accommodating reasonable concerns brought by students, especially those who are sick and/or are considered high risk.
What is social distancing? The CDC defines social distancing as avoiding crowds and mass public gatherings, and when possible, maintaining a distance of at least three feet from others. Social distancing also means staying home when ill, avoiding contact with people who have symptoms of illness and not shaking hands.
- Community education classes are canceled through April 8.
- All community education in senior centers canceled through spring term.
- College campuses and student services will remain open and operational.
- All large gatherings over 250 people are canceled as mandated by the state.
- Audience admission is canceled at collegiate athletic events and activities, except for student participants, essential personnel and credentialed media.
- College-associated gatherings and group activities that do not allow for individuals to maintain a distance of three feet or more from one another will be canceled.
- The following events are being canceled (Note: This list doesn’t include everything.):
- March 12 — NWAC basketball finals
- March 12 — Vocal Jazz Festival
- March 13 — Welcome Center groundbreaking
- March 13-14 — Instrumental Jazz Festival
- March 23-27 — Environmental Learning Center camps
- April 16 — Skills Competition
- CCC is limiting all school-related non-essential travel, including in- and out-of-state.
- All non-essential meetings above 20 people are being limited.
- Offices will remain open, but minimally staffed.
We recognize implementing such measures may raise questions, and cause disruption and concern. We ask that you accommodate these changes in how we operate so we can provide as much service as possible during this challenging time. With concern about the COVID-19 virus growing throughout Oregon, we want to update you on the actions Clackamas Community College has taken so far to respond to concerns and to let you know there are no cases of coronavirus connected with members of the college community that we know of at this time.
On March 8, the Oregon Health Authority released a response for schools, recommending against schools and campuses closing where there are no cases of COVID-19 and to consider all other alternatives before closing if a COVID-19 case is detected among students, staff or faculty.
Taking this under advisement, we anticipate continuing to offer courses on campus, in a face-to-face format. We appreciate the challenge that comes from balancing student health and providing high-quality education.
We are urging instructors to be flexible in attendance policies and to consider accommodating reasonable concerns brought by students, especially those who are sick and/or are considered high risk. We are also working to prepare for the possibility of moving more classes to online formats. For those who may need to self-quarantine, please work with your instructor(s) about learning from home or other alternatives.
In addition, campus services are continually scaling up their cleaning, using EPA-approved products that are effective against COVID-19. Several times a day, staff are wiping touch points (door knobs, light switches, etc.) with these disinfectants to reduce the chance of contaminate spread.
If you do develop symptoms or feel sick:
- Stay home.
- Seek medical advice. Call your medical care facility before visiting to check if they have facility-specific precautions in place to protect other patients and employees.
Remember, COVID-19 doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t recognize race, nationality or ethnicity and neither should you. Stigmatizing specific groups doesn’t stop the spread of COVID-19.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) officially made its way to Oregon last week. This message is to inform you that we are actively staying in contact with local health departments and there are no connections of any cases of coronavirus with Clackamas Community College at this time.
Campus Services has been wiping touch points with disinfecting wipes twice a day and using an electrostatic sprayer daily for the last few weeks and will continue to do so. They will also be installing permanent and freestanding hand sanitizers this week.
Students, faculty and staff with flu-like illness are asked to self-isolate at home until at least 24 hours after you are free of fever, or signs of a fever, without the use of fever-reducing medicines.
Here’s some information from the Oregon Health Authority on what you can do:
There are things everyone can do to prepare for this virus and prevent the spread of other viruses like influenza. That’s because the same things that protect against cold and flu germs also prevent COVID-19.
To protect yourself, your family and your coworkers:
- Wash your hands often with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue, sleeve or elbow (not hands) when you cough or sneeze.
- Stay home if you are sick.
- Keep your immune system strong by eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep and regular exercise, and by taking care of underlying health conditions.
There are also basic steps every household should take to prepare for any unexpected event:
- Learn about your employer’s sick leave and telecommuting policies.
- Establish a childcare plan in the event your kids need to stay home from school.
- Make sure you have the kinds of foods, drinks, medications and pet supplies you would want if you needed to stay home and limit your contact with other people for a couple weeks.
- Get to know your neighbors, especially those who might need extra help like seniors or people living alone.
